paintings #42 #46 and #47 are part of a series depicting the wachau valley, austria’s most celebrated romantic region and the legend surrounding richard the lionheart.

dürnstein, a small town on the danube river, was established in 1019. the town is home to dürnstein abbey, originally founded as a monastery in 1410, now serving as a local church with its iconic blue bell tower dating back to 1733. overlooking the town are the ruins of dürnstein castle, a fortress constructed in the early 12th century. notably, richard the lionheart was imprisoned here in 1192.
